Messingham CC plays a central role in the life of the community of the village.

The Messingham Memorial Playing Field – the home of the cricket club – was donated to the parish in 1948 by the late Mr J W Hiles. Today, its centrepiece is the ‘new pavilion’, which was officially opened in 1981 by Mr W Elsome, chairman of the Messingham Playing Field Association Club.

It had always been the vision of the Association Committee to provide recreational facilities of the local community and 1952 saw the Bowls Club acquire its own pavilion, followed in 1955 by a similar building for the use of the football and cricket teams.

The present pavilion achieved the ambition of the committee, and since its construction both the Bowls Club and Cricket Club have been favoured with County fixtures.

The cricket and football sections also have vibrant youth sections which are increasing rapidly, and both support the current drive for additional and upgraded facilities.
